LINEAR EXPANSIVITY OF A SOLID

The Lineear Expancivity of a solid is defined as increase in length per unit length for each degree rise in temperature.

Linear Expansivity

Where

= Length after Expansion

= Length before Expansion

The Unit of Linear Expansivity  is

Example

What is the Linear Expancivity ?

Solution

AREA EXPANSIVITY OF A SOLID

The Area Expansivity of a solid is defined as increase in area per unit area for each degree rise in temperature.

Where L and B are Length and Breadth of the solid material respectively .

Area Expansivity = 2 x Linear Expansivity

Similarly

Volume or Cubic Expansivity =

  =      3 x Linear Expansivity =
