Consider the data you're working with and what you'd like to do with that data when you consider data lake vs warehouse. A data lake can be helpful when you have a lot of unstructured or diverse data that could be useful for other purposes at a later time. Structured reporting and regular business analysis, it is better to use a warehouse. Some vendors ultimately employ both. It's not always the latest technology, it should be the right technology for your data, analytics requirements, budget and team capabilities.
