Got a 2009 Ford Focus that's closing in on 200,000km and far as I know the transmission fluid has never been changed. Runs fine honestly, shifts okay, no major complaints but I know that at this mileage it's probably overdue and I'm wondering if I should tackle it myself to save some cash. Watched about fifteen YouTube videos last night and it looks straightforward enough, drain plug, refill through the dipstick tube, seems simple. But then I started reading forum threads where people warn about doing it too late and causing more problems than you solve because the old fluid has friction material suspended in it that's keeping worn clutches working. Now I'm second guessing everything and wondering if I should just leave it alone until something actually breaks. Found a pretty detailed guide on https://gearboxrepairsharjah.ae/ that explains the whole friction modifier situation which made me realize it's not as simple as just dumping new fluid in. Anyone here done a high mileage transmission flush or drain and fill? Did it go smooth or did you regret touching it? Just trying to figure out if I'm being smart or setting myself up for a much bigger bill.
