How To Play Animal Crossing New Horizons with Friends?

You can play Animal Crossing with your friends. This can be done in split screen mode, in local multiplayer with multiple consoles or via online multiplayer. However, you must first unlock the multiplayer mode.

Playing Animal Crossing together

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can explore the virtual world and build up your island with various Animal Crossing items not only with your family, but also with your friends. There are several ways to play the game together.

• The multiplayer mode is not unlocked from the beginning. To play it, you must first complete various tasks.
• To unlock the local split screen, where you can play with up to three friends on a console, you must first play through the tutorial with the first character.
• Then save the game and leave it. Then start Animal Crossing: New Horizons with a different local profile.
• Then recreate a character. In the first conversation of the now shortened tutorial with Tom Nook you get the Nook Phone. There you will find the app "Call Residents" with which you can play with your friends.

Local multiplayer with multiple consoles

If you want to play with friends via the local multiplayer with multiple consoles, you have to visit the airport in the game. So you can meet up at a friend's home and play Animal Crossing together.

• If you want to receive friends, click "Receive Residents" in conversation with Dodo at the airport. You can open the gate to all visitors or only to those who know your Dodo code.
• The Dodo Code is an access code that you need to receive and share with your friends so they can visit you.
• If you want to visit a friend, choose at the airport in conversation with Dodo "I want to fly". Then click "Visit Someone" and the local mode.
• To end the local multiplayer, all guests must leave the island. This can be done either via the airport or pressing the minus button.

Play online multiplayer with friends

If you want to play in online multiplayer with your friends, all players need a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

• If you want to welcome friends in online multiplayer, go to the airport and talk to Dodo there. Select "Receive Residents" and the Online mode.
• You can choose whether access to your island is free or you can only visit players with the Dodo code.
• If you want to visit friends on their island, click "I want to fly" and "Visit someone" in conversation with Bodo at the airport. Select the online mode.
• You can choose whether you want to visit an island of friends from your friends list, best friends or by dodo code.
• To end the online multiplayer, all guests must leave the game. This can be done either via the airport or via the minus button.
