VC permeates the MyTeam mode again, too. This mode functions as a fantasy-esque build-your-own-team endeavor in which you make card packs to MT NBA 2K21 unlock players among a roster that spans numerous NBA eras. MyTeam can be attractive for long-time basketball lovers such as myself who've Allen Iverson teamed up with Anthony Davis and may take this fantasy team roster into single-player or multiplayer games. However, the loot-box nature of making card packs--that can be acquired by slowly earning MT points through fresh avenues such as challenges, seasonal events, and turning into useless cards, or by purchasing them together with VC--leaves the reliance on VC unsurprisingly egregious.

MyGM, which places you into the shoes of a team's General Manager, is a style worth mentioning. You call the shots for everything out of roster moves, trades, ticket costs, marketing, and personnel decisions in hopes of building a successful franchise. It's a sports management simulation fantasy, but changes here are just skin deep. You will go through awkwardly written and animated dialogue situations to manage relationships within your business --such as how I chatted to RJ Barrett about the way he had to play clarinet in order to improve his sanity stats, or became the yes-man of head coach Tom Thibodeau to keep him happy. MyGM's menus are also flooded in a way that makes it difficult to navigate and get a grip of how to spend your limited time and resources throughout the season. I've really enjoyed this mode in the past with its RPG-like sensibilities, but it is one that needs a serious revamp.

I am able to run down every other manner of drama or feature in NBA 2K21, but I'd really just be going through the laundry list of items we've seen in years past--but I do need to point to the continuing addition of the WNBA. It's a great feature for fans and those who wish to familiarize themselves with WNBA teams and players. Where this falls short is the WNBA is relegated to just season play, and the inclusion of female participant creation is only featured at the upcoming next-gen versions of this match.

NBA 2K21 proves that the lone basketball sim we've now has largely stagnated. It is a full package, for sure, but one which shows little-to-no motivation to meaningfully improve upon itself. That does not take away from the strong base that makes NBA 2K an enjoyable and rewarding time. However, when you go through precisely the same grind and the same procedure with Cheap NBA 2K21 MT only superficial changes, you just get burnt out faster than many years prior. If chunk is still existence, NBA 2K21 is as good a version as any to select, but even the best ballers require a rest.
