Electric cells

A group of cells is called Battery

A cell consist of two electrodes of different metal placed in a container of electrolyte. The electrolyte is a solution of Acid or salt e.g Tetraoxosulphate vi acid  . Or ammonium chloride.

The Positive electrode is the anode

The Negative electrode is the cathode

Examples of  electrodes are Aluminium, Carbon(Graphite), Copper, Iron, Lead, Zinc, etc

There are two types of cells

  1. Primary cells—Non-rechargeable cells
  2. Secondary cells- Rechargeable  cells

DEFECTS OF A PRIMARY CELLS, POLARIZATION AND LOCAL ACTION

SECONDARY CELLS, ACCUMULATORS
