Types of thermometers

Liquid-in-glass thermometers: This thermometer uses liquid as thermometric substances. The scale is graduated base on increase in volume of the liquid with increase in temperature . Example is mercury-in-glass thermometers.

Gas Thermometers: This thermometer uses Gas as thermometric substances. The scale is graduated base on change in pressure at constant volume or change in volume at constant pressure.

Thermo-Electric Thermometers: This Thermometer uses amount of current flow as the thermometric substance. When one junction of two different metal is heated , the current flow is proportional to the heat applied.

Resistance Thermometers: This thermometer uses resistance of a metal as the thermometric substances. The scale is graduated base on increase in the resistance when the metal is heated.

Bimetallic Thermometers:   Expansion in two metals causes bending in the metal strip and this indicates changes in temperature. The higher the temperature , the higher the bend .
