MEASURING INSTRUMENTS GO BACK
Vernier Caliper
Vernier Caliper is mainly used to measure smaller lenghts such as diameter of a rod, thickness of a plate and internal diameter of a tube.
Scale reading . The Reading of the main scale is recorded to 1 decimal place. e.g 0.9, 1.8, 4.1.
The vernier scale is recorded at point of coincident with main scale in 2 decimal place with first two digit being zero. e.g 0.06, 0.08, 0.01.
The vernier scale and the main are then added together.
Main scale=0.9
Vernier reading =0.06
The reading is 0.96cm
Accuracy: the accuracy of this instrument is 0.01cm
