Components of Vectors

A vector A= 20KM acting at angle of  can be resolved into components towards North and towards East

Resultant of more than two vectors

To find the resultant of more than two vectors, simply reduces the vectors to the components along the vertical and horizontal directions. Add all the components to remain only two forces as shown in Fig 1 above, then find the resultants of the two forces.

Example

In Fig 1 above ,If F2=7N, F4=5N and F7=2N, while F7 is   . Find the resultant of the force.

Solution :

Resolve F7 to components. You have 2sin30 and 2cos30.

Then 7-2cos30 towards North   and

4-2sin30 towards east

7-2cos30= 5.27N

4-2Sin30=3N

The direction is the angle which R makes with B(East)
